necklaces earrings paintings
erika laine hansen started making jewelry from plastic fishing lure beads out of her grandfather's tackle box at age 5. Her necklaces were very popular with the other kindergarteners. At age 15, she began showing her jewelry in galleries. Her work has evolved, and over the past few years she has begun to make her own glass beads to incorporate into her work. She uses vintage and antique glass beads, gemstones, shells, beach glass and other found objects and then creates her own glass beads to compliment them. Working only in sterling silver, she also does wirewrapping on some pieces. Each piece is a unique one-of-a-kind work of wearable art.

Her paintings are landscapes, modern interpretations of botanical prints, and algae inspired ink drawings. She works primarily in watercolors, but also utilizes ink, colored pencils and glass beads in her work.

Educated at Denison University in biology, and now with degrees from Cleveland State University in psychology and biology, erika has no formal art education, but is the daughter of an illustrator and graphic designer and so grew up with art in her life from a very early age. She is a member of Hot Rods, the local northern Ohio chapter of the International Society of Glass Beadmakers, and shows her work in local galleries and boutiques. She lives in the greater Cleveland, Ohio area with her husband and five pets.
